University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is a vibrant academic department comprising more than 200 faculty members in 16 subspecialty divisions. The department promotes and enhances the health of children through outstanding clinical care, exemplary education of pediatric trainees, performance of cutting-edge research, and vigorous advocacy. Department members are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment in all aspects of their work.

The University of Wisconsin Pediatrics Residency Program prepares learners to practice general or subspecialty pediatrics in academic, public health, or private practice settings. Residents can tailor their training by entering one of the program’s five residency pathways: Global Health; Pediatric Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine; Primary Care; Producing Understanding in the Basics of Literature, Inquiry, and Scholarship in Healthcare (PUBLISH); and Physician Scientist Training. Medical school learning in the department is also tailored to the individual and offers away rotations. The department’s fellowship programs provide outstanding training in 14 subspecialties that prepare fellows to excel as clinicians, researchers, and leaders in academic pediatrics.

UW Health is the integrated health system affiliated with UW–Madison. It employs 1,800 physicians and 24,000 employees at nine hospitals and over 90 outpatient sites. UW Health Kids includes all pediatric care and programs at UW Health and boasts services of distinction in areas such as cancer and blood diseases, heart care, pulmonary care, transplant, transgender health, and injury prevention and safety advocacy. The state-of-the-art American Family Children’s Hospital is a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center that provides Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care for the region. The 111-bed facility gives patients and families throughout Wisconsin and beyond a place to heal in a child-friendly environment.
