Sandra Gage, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and the Director of Faculty Development of Hospital Medicine at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. She received her undergraduate degree as well as graduate degrees in Medicine and Medical Neurobiology at Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Her primary research interests include quality improvement, transitions of care, faculty mentorship and professional development. She has presented workshops and lectures locally and nationally on family centered rounds, hospital readmissions, utilization of Teach Back, developing QI initiatives, development of mentorship programs, peer mentorship and observation, and improving discharge transitions. She served in leadership on the multisite QI collaborative “Improving Pediatric Patient-Centered Care Transitions”. She is the former Chair of both the Society of Hospital Medicine’s (SHM) Pediatric Special Interest Group Executive Council, as well as the Consortium of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. She is a past member of SHM’s Practice Analysis Committee and Co-Editor of the SHM sponsored Pediatric Hospital Medicine Core Competencies.
